The Lord Will Judge His People - 07-12-2026 - Pastor Douglas Herrell
Notes:
Hebrews 10:28–29 (NIV) Anyone who rejected the law of Moses
died without mercy on the testimony of two or three
witnesses. 29 How much more severely do you think someone
deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of
God underfoot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of
the covenant that sanctified them, and who has insulted the
Spirit of grace?
• The author calls our attention to the distinction
between the Law of Moses and Christ's sacrifice.
• In view of Hebrews 10:29, let each of us consider
our salvation a precious gift to be treasured.
Hebrews 10:30–31 (NIV) 30 For we know him who said, “It is
mine to avenge; I will repay,” and again, “The Lord will judge
his people.” 31 It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the
living God.
• We are reminded that God—and God alone—is,
must be, and always will be the source of
vengeance.
1 Peter 4:17–18 (NKJV) For the time has come for judgment to
begin at the house of God; and if it begins with us first, what
will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God?
Now “If the righteous one is scarcely saved,
Where will the ungodly and the sinner appear?”
Hebrews 12:14–15 (AMP) Continually pursue
peace with everyone, and the sanctification
without which no one will [ever] see the
Lord. 15 See to it that no one falls short of God’s
grace; that no root of resentment springs up and
causes trouble, and by it many be defiled;
• Peace and holiness travel the same sacred path!
• We must be mindful of the pitfalls and stumbling
blocks that can arise along the way of salvation.
Hebrews 12:16–17 (AMP) and [see to it] that no
one is immoral or godless like Esau, who sold
his own birthright for a single meal. 17 For you
know that later on, when he wanted [to regain
title to] his inheritance of the blessing, he was
rejected, for he found no opportunity for
repentance [there was no way to repair what he
had done, no chance to recall the choice he
had made], even though he sought for it with
[bitter] tears.
• The eternal lesson of Esau: Do not sell yourself
short of the goal.
2 Peter 1:10–11 (NIV) Therefore, my brothers
and sisters, make every effort to confirm your
calling and election. For if you do these things,
you will never stumble, 11 and you will receive a
rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our
Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
